New processes for shipping goods to Europe, ROI and Northern Ireland

2021-01-29 – The Hazchem Network’s services to Northern Ireland, Europe and The Republic of Ireland are still running as normal.

The processes for importing and exporting freight changed on the 1st January 2021 for goods travelling between the UK and Northern Ireland, Ireland and Europe through the network. Shippers of goods will need to declare additional information to meet new customs and declarations rules.

Customers that wish to ship goods to Northern Ireland, Ireland or Europe must now first complete the following administrative duties –

 

PREPARING A COMMERCIAL INVOICE

Anyone wishing to ship goods to the European Union will need to provide a commercial invoice for each consignment and you will need to ensure that it meets the required standards required for export as set out below.

• Invoice number
• Exporters GB EORI number shown
• Importers EORI number shown
• Full address of exporter
• Full address of importer
• Inco terms
• Product description
• Number and type of packages
• Commodity code
• Net and gross weight per product
• Value of goods (including currency) per product
• Country of origin
• Country of origin declaration’ on the invoice (for Republic of Ireland only)

EORI NUMBERS

You need an EORI number to move goods between Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) or the Isle of Man, and other countries. You may also need a separate EORI number if you move goods to or from Northern Ireland.

If you do not have an EORI number, you may have increased costs and delays. For example, if HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) cannot clear your goods you may have to pay storage fees.

If you already have an EORI number and it does not start with GB you will need to apply for a new one.

TSS (Trader Support Service)

If you want to move goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland the Trader Support Service will guide you through any changes due to the implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol.

DGN (Dangerous goods note)

If your goods are hazardous, they must be accompanied by a Dangerous Goods Note (DGN)

Failure to provide all of the above information in full will mean the goods cannot be shipped.
